Transportation

There are several ways to get to Seoul from Incheon International Airport. The following are the most convenient and economical methods of transportation.

Airport Limousine Buses: Airport Limousine Buses are available across Seoul, as well as around hotels and tourist attractions nationwide, and are connected to the country's major airports.

Airport Express (AREX): AREX trains are very convenient because they pass through Incheon International Airport and Gimpo International Airport to Seoul Station and are also connected to several Seoul subway lines. It takes less than 45 minutes for the non-stop train to connect Incheon Airport with Seoul Station.

Subway: Seoul Metropolitan Government operates subway lines 1-9 run across Seoul.

Taxis: Standard, Deluxe, Int’l, and Jumbo taxis are all available. The travel time from Incheon Airport to the center of Seoul varies between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

Driving in Korea

European citizens and persons with swiss citizenship who are holding a national driver’s license must combine their license with an international one to be allowed to drive vehicles, subject to their license type, in Korea. However, this regulation only applies for a period up to one year.

To have the permission to drive a car for the longer term, the national driving license must be replaced by a local Korean driving license. In this regard, it is advisable to contact the embassy of the respective home country. Only licenses for cars are recognized. Truck or motorcycle driving licenses are not permitted for exchange. To obtain a driving license for these vehicles, a practical on-the-spot test is indispensable. (Note: With a Korean driver’s license class 2 you are not allowed to drive minibuses with more than nine seats, such as KIA Carnival.)

If the national driving license is replaced with a Korean one, the national driving license will be withheld and can be exchanged again upon presentation of an air ticket before departure from South Korea.
